5 Signs Your Website Needs a Security Audit

1. The admin login feels slower than it used to
A sudden slowdown logging into your CMS or hosting panel, with no other explanation, is often a sign that something else is running on the server alongside your legitimate traffic — a background process using resources it shouldn’t have.
2. Visitors report being redirected somewhere unexpected
If a customer messages you saying your site sent them to an ad, a fake login page, or a completely unrelated site, take it seriously even if you can’t reproduce it yourself. Malicious redirects are often conditional — shown to some visitors (or search engines) and not others, specifically to stay hidden from the site owner.
3. New admin accounts or files you didn’t create
Check your list of user accounts and your file directory occasionally. An unfamiliar admin account, or a file with a name that doesn’t match anything you built, is one of the clearest signs of unauthorized access.
4. Your hosting bill or bandwidth usage jumped for no reason
A breached site is sometimes used to send spam email, host malicious files, or run scripts in the background — all of which show up as unexplained resource usage before you notice anything else is wrong.
5. Google Search Console shows a manual action or “site may be hacked” warning
If you have Search Console connected, this is often the first concrete confirmation. By the time it shows up there, the issue has usually been present for a while — worth checking that dashboard periodically, not just when something already feels off.
